RESUME

The Special Bilingual Education Programme (SBEP) has been initiated in the Ministry of Secodary Education to promote bilingualism in Cameroon. Many parents accept this section because they know that their children will be true bilingual citizens. Unfortunately, these parents as well as teachers and students themselves are unaware that the knowledge of two languages can go beyond the mere promotion of bilingualism. They have little knowledge on how to capitalise on bilingualism to improve professional integration. This work sheds more light on the assets of the mastery of the English language by French-speaking students and thus aims to answer these questions : What is the importance of English in career development? What are the career choices of students who follow the SBEP ? And How does the lack of knowledge of the importance of English in career development affect students’ career choices ? To carry out this research, we choose the quantitative approach with the questionnaire as the main data collection tool. The interview is also used as a secondary tool. The questionnaire will be administered to students who constitute the target population and the interviews will be conducted with parents and teachers for more information. All data will be analysed following the statistical and content analysis system. To interpret the results, Roe’s career choice theory will be used.
